When should you put your parquet flooring?

When it comes to home upgrades, there are frequently numerous factors to consider. It can be difficult to know where to start. What starts as a ‘lick of paint’ or a ‘freshen up’ can quickly escalate into a complete renovation that requires weeks and weeks of preparation. One of the most common queries we receive is about when to lay your parquet flooring in Dubai. It’s critical to get the timing perfect when remodeling a bedroom or installing a new kitchen.
Here are our top tips to make things go more smoothly.

First, and most importantly…

Not all areas of your home upgrades will go as planned, and they will almost always take longer than expected. This is why it is always advisable to leave a week or two between each stage, especially if you are using a variety of trades to perform the task. Most trades will have weeks of work booked in advance, so they may be unable to accommodate you if you need to rearrange.

Essentially, you must finish all other work before installing your flooring. Flooring installation necessitates a clean, unoccupied space. Having all of your trades operate simultaneously will only slow down progress and prevent everything from flowing properly. This can lead to higher labor expenditures and delays.

Decorating

Whether you use paint or wallpaper, covering your floor or any furniture is a must when decorating your home. For optimal results, install new carpet or flooring after finishing any decoration. There is no guarantee that a dust sheet will prevent every possible disaster.

New paint, new floor

There are currently a variety of paints available on the market. Keep extra paint on hand for any scuffs during installation, regardless of the paint you choose.

Accidents happen even when everyone has the best intentions. Some paints leave a mark with simple finger contact. If you intend on having a new floor laid, it can be difficult to prevent touching your freshly painted walls with your floor. This could be due to the size and shape of the room. While some carpets have soft backing, the majority have a rough, textured back. If your paint is prone to marking, scuff marks are unavoidable. This is not necessarily a careless fitter, but rather an unavoidable consequence of installing.

The same goes for freshly painted skirting boards and architraves. To install your carpet, the fitter will need to use a tool to force it onto the gripper and take in the edges. This can inevitably result in minor scuff marks. To help avoid this, pick high-quality paint. It is critical to prime well and let it dry for at least a week before installation.

The room features new paint and flooring, which includes parquet, wood, and click LVT tiles.

If you opt for a floating floor (a floor that clicks together), you will need to leave an expansion gap around the room’s perimeter. You can conceal this gap with beading or replace your skirting boards. If you choose to remove your skirting boards during installation, priming and painting them beforehand can prevent paint from getting on your new flooring and make painting easier.

Glue Down parquet floors

You can fit glue-down parquet floors right up to your skirting boards without needing an expansion gap. We recommend priming and painting these before installation to ensure a neat and tidy appearance.

When should I lay flooring in a new kitchen?

Regardless of the style of flooring you choose, it is usually the final thing to be put in. The alternative would be to install flooring beneath your kitchen cabinets. This can be a costly waste because you’ll never see it.

A possible exception to this would be the state of your subfloor. Your floor fitter and kitchen team may determine that your subfloor is inadequately uneven. Your floor team may need to apply a plywood overlay or pre-screed (leveling compound) before placing your kitchen. They can then return once your kitchen is complete to finish the installation. A follow-up talk with teams about your kick board may be important. It is often necessary for your kitchen crew to know the depth of your new flooring so that they can make adequate room. Communication is essential!
